Purpose of the role:
To advise on day to day taxation issues as well as the tax impact of proposed transactions affecting both the owners and their businesses, including business purchases and sales, flotations and management buy-outs.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Dealing with corporate tax compliance affairs for a portfolio of clients.
- Assisting the partners and directors in the development of the office and the tax department in particular.
- Developing working relationships with other service lines including corporate finance, corporate recovery and audit and advisory services.
- The preparation and submission of Corporation Tax Returns.
- Dealing with related HM Revenue & Customs correspondence.
- Assisting in the administration of the Tax Department (including assisting in maintenance of various controls and registers).
- Ad hoc duties may be reasonably required, including dealing with some personal tax issues.
- Maintaining control registers & diary systems.
- Dealing with HMRC enquiries on corporation tax matters.
- Advising on structuring issues, tax efficient arrangements and the preparation of clearance applications.
Experience/Skills:
- Proven technical experience/experience in a similar role.
- Preferably CTA, ACA, ACCA qualified.
- Experience of offering a full range of advisory services to owner-managed business clients (both from the owners’ and the business’ perspectives).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- A conscientious individual with strong analytical skills and good communication skills as the role will involve dealing directly with clients, HMRC and answering one-off technical queries.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and experience of other tax software would be advantageous including in particular Alphatax.
